The terror attack on France which took the lives of more than 150 people is a condemnable act which in it entirety is not new to the world. It is also a phenomenon that the whole world has gathered to confront (sincerely or otherwise) over time and it seems the war on terror is not winnable. This, I do not want to believe simply because I know that only a negligible few is holding us to ransom and we can use our collective will, reinforcement of love and the desire to not always mourn brothers, sisters and our loved ones because of a man (woman) with a strange belief to turn the table around. The war against terror, I also believe, can not be won without empathy, compassion for another because the global peace we so desire yet seems evasive can only be achieved when we have mutual respect for one another, allow others hold their beliefs and respect their opinions even when it is contrary to ours. We can not and should not always accept the same truth but must always admit that in our diversity; in belief, colour, ways and thought processes lies the beauty of our existence. This beauty should be cherished, nourished and nurtured into a state where we do not only talk about it but become an embodiment of this beauty individually (and collectively. Until this time, which I say unto you is nearer than anyone could imagine, the quest to attain global peace will be in vain. In furtherance, Nigeria and Nigerians, as part of the global entity must not lose their identity and voice to neocolonialism, else the ravaging war in our backyard will consume us in no time. As an after effect of the terror attack, the world woke up to a Facebook (which if it's a country, would be the most populous in the world) with almost everyone using temporary profile picture with the colours of France. I was not mad when I saw it because I felt it is welcoming to use technology and the cyber space to fight terrorism in a unique way. When it comes to technology, it solutions are always endearing and innovative. After all, that is the essence of technology. At night fall on Sunday, I was shocked that people who didn't share in the idea of using the flag-like profile picture had taken the users head on and had called them names that are unprintable and enough to start a war just because of profile pictures. After a broadcast authored by popular KinetoLeadership coach; Mr Akpoveta Valentine, I realised that the people who attacked the "flaggers" are much worse than those who carried out the terror attack. Do you know why? Because they failed to understand the thought process of the users, yet they crucified them. On a closer examination, you will agree with me that the users didn't do it out of compassion for France or in solidarity with the French people, they as usual used paracetamol for somebody else's headache and joined the internet bandwagon. If you had taken your time, like I did, to ask few persons who used the flag why they did and what led to it, the most occurring answer you will get is; "Facebook asked me to try it and I did". They seriously didn't even know what happened in France, they just followed the crowd. Is that the kind of patriotism you want for Nigeria? Even those that have never prayed for their colleagues before joined the #PrayForHumanity campaign. However, you can not ask for the heads even if they did it with all their hearts and never did the same for Nigeria. If I may ask you, do you even believe the Chibok girls were kidnapped? I didn't ask to remind you of your unpatriotic nature too, but to tell you the harm that our dysfunctional media (a political weaponry rather than a voice and sight for the voiceless and visionless) is greater than good. That is if they are doing us any good at all. The media coupled with irresponsible government who place no value on the lives of Nigerians is why killings in Nigeria will never get the attention it so deserve. Cyber patriotism is not patriotism because people don't really do things heartily in the cyber space. After the Garissa attack, a group of students lied down in rows like dead bodies in solidarity with the Kenyans. I know you remember what people did when Aylan Kurdi; the Syrian toddler was washed ashore. In our backyard, our very unrelenting Bring Back Our Girls group had shown patriotism and has taken it to another level. If you have BBOG (you didn't even believe in their struggle) why bother about cyber pseudo French nationals? If you think those that used the French flag themed picture are not patriotic enough, do not condemn, rather correct them with love (that is even if they did any form of wrong). As we continue the fight against terror, let us stop praying for humanity. After all, it hasn't worked. Let us all get together and act in a manner that will not hurt humanity. Let us all love one another and give you when necessary. As for me, I have stopped praying for humanity and I only want to concentrate on treating everybody right, that way I can contribute to the safety of the world.
