2014 was a year widely regarded as notorious in the history of Nigeria. It was also the year which gave way to 2015 ( funny? We must acknowledge the past to appreciate what the present has in stock for us). As a nation, we trudged, we fought and we are on our way to victory. It was in that notorious year that we fought Ebola (people are still divided on who should take the glory) and we went through a lot of pain together. Nonetheless, the notoriety of 2014 threw up so many interesting topics, new friendship made, alliance renegotiated and campus switched. If you are conversant with the online community as an active citizen you would be aware of so many things with respect to the coming general elections. Most recent of them is our charismatic Father in Enugu who made a proclamation that wowed everyone. The video was recorded on new Year’s Eve but some of us (laggards) didn't get to see it until some days into the new year. Our dear father in the Lord, Father Mbaka unequivocally called for change, urged his congregation to vote out the sitting president. Without mincing words, the father said heaven is against the reelection bid of Dr Jonathan. He illustrated this with what happened months ago when the first lady, mama peace visited. In his words; "when the healthiest of the 5 birds refused to fly, the spirit of God asked me not to stress myself that it is a message with a meaning". The submission of the father, many believed would have a huge effect on the electorates as father Mbaka is a well respect preacher who has a large clout in the south eastern region. This believe expressed notwithstanding has been vigorously countered by a whole lot of others who believe that the father's position could be due to failed promises by the number one citizen. Their claim, they said were connected with the perceived chamelionic attribute of the father. It was buttressed by referring to the words of the father when Mrs Jonathan visited the church in November. It is not disrespectful to ask what the has changed nor disbelieve to question the man of God. It is also not ridiculous to take the father's call with levity. It is also not uncommon with homo sapiens to say one thing today and say what is entirely different later on. It is in this country that we have a Fani-Kayode, Sheikh Gumi, the president of CAN and others who have taken their time to say one thing or the other about national issues. What baffles me the most is because when the speaker is against one camp, the other camp(s) begin to attack the messenger without giving credence to the message. Father Mbaka asked salient questions which in a sane world people would only demand the answers and not query the motive. As a person, since the days of Fani-Kayode as aviation minister, I never took him serious. You would recollect what Obasanjo said the boy. Many Nigerians said a whole lot of things prior to the climax of preparation for the forth coming election and have switched to say different things, yet, no one has called for their heads. It is pertinent that we respect people's opinion, choice of words and freedom of speech as long as they bring no harm to us and are not instigating us against one another. If we take stands, let us stand by and stay true to them. It is also inhumane to threaten the man of God irrespective of who he supports or speak in favour of.
