Manchester city second choice keeper Willy Caballero joins Chelsea on a free transfer

Early in the transfer window, Chelsea second choice keeper Asmir Begovic signed for Bournemouth. Following his departure from the club, the current English champions have signed City rejected goal keeper, Willy Caballero on a free transfer.

The Citizens sealed the transfer of goalkeeper Ederson for £35 million while Caballero received interest from Newcastle United and Boca Juniors earlier. He finally decided to join Conte’s side in a deal that left some Chelsea fans wondering if it was a right move or not.

The 35-year-old goal keeper joined Manchester city from Malaga 2014, making just 23 appearances in three years for the blue side of Manchester.

The Argentine his famous for his outstanding performance against Liverpool in the 2016 league cup final saving three penalties, thereby helping is team to win the then Carling cup (now EFL cup) with his heroic performance.

Caballero said: ‘I am very happy to join Chelsea, the champions of England. I am looking forward to meeting the guys and helping the club achieve more success in the coming season.’

According to Chelsea technical director, Michael Emenalo, on the acquisition of Willy “We are very happy to have Willy on board. He knows the Premier League and he’s tried and tested at the top of the game”.

Caballero’s move to Chelsea won’t make any difference, will it? He’s still going to be second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois but one wonders what knowledge of the premier league he has with 23 appearances
